SEO Tip: Domain Expired for one day – Site Gone From Google

It seems that people still do not believe that Google have an algorithm to check the whois of your domain name:

I accidentally let one domain of mine expire and renewed it after it showed an “expired domain” message for a day or so. A few days later the site is gone from Google with no traffic at all from this SE. Even when searching for the url my website is nowhere to be found.

My question: has anyone experienced this and what did you do? I’m thinking of submitting a reinclusion request. Or should I wait to see what happens? How long to wait? This is a 7 year old domain with good backlinks.

Thanks..

From what we can see here is that Google remove immediately domain names that expires or are a few days to expire. Here are some SEO Tips with your domain name:

  • If you bought a domain name and you are serious in developing your site and thinking as a long term you should renew your domain name at least 3 years. When eTalk Network is going for a new project we always buy a domain name for 10 years (the maximum on Godaddy).
  • In case you have a domain name and you don’t have the money to buy +3 years, renew it before 1 month (at least).
  • Do not buy domain names that are dropped. There are many domain sellers on forums that say “pagerank 3 domain name….” those are just dropped domain names and the pagerank is not real (when I say pagerank is not real is inside Google system, the toolbar or system that check pagerank are fake). If you see Googlelady.com have a pagerank zero but doesn’t have a penalty. You can search for “Googlelady” or many others keywords and this blog is ranked very well.

Question… are expiring domains the same as dropped domains? I have had some success keeping pagerank after buying expiring domains through godaddy.

You may see the pagerank on the toolbar or any other Pagerank checker. But now I have a question to you. How quickly your pages of that expired domain names are indexed?

That hasn’t happened to me so far, even with domains that I renewed after 2-3 days after expiration. But to avoid any case of site disappearance of that kind, I will renew them earlier.

    Thanks for the info :)

Hmmm…. I am not sure if I agree with this article or not.

Who was your registrar with this domain? Was the domain someone attached to a Google product? That and just ‘by chance’ would be some of the reasons this happened.

Buying a domain for ten years has zero effect with Google, they have even said that. Even though they applied for a patent on this kind of technology they do not use it with their search engine. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1_1NQWQJ2Q

Hmm….I buy dropped domains all the time and sort of agree with the page rank thing, since pagerank only gets update a few times a year. Pagerank is pretty easy to get back up and in three months or so with some decent content it’s pretty simple to get up to at least a Pr3 with little or not effort. Pagerank doesn’t mean much anymore and if it’s a good sounding domain and you have done your research on it (archive.org etc..) then I see nothing wrong with it.

Very good primer on the subject and should help many businesses better understand SEO. I will be recommending it.
