You may heard the news about facebook allowing search engines to list members profiles. So if someone search with your name they can find you easily on any search engine with your facebook profile. The reason why facebook will be doing this:

  • To get more members into facebook
  • To make facebook a kind of White Pages to find other people’s online
  • Om malik has some few words to say:

Om Malik, publisher of GigaOm.com, a San Francisco-based technology news site and weblog, said one of the great features of Facebook was privacy.

“You could be assured that what was in Facebook remained in Facebook,” Malik said in his blog. “However, that illusion might be ending soon.”

But I disagree with what Om Malik said, because after doing some research, I have register an account there and the privacy thing pop up. It is easy to block search engines to list your profile with just few clicks. So if you are a member of facebook you have to disable this option and you are done. But let me ask you a question (to my readers), if you are worried for your privacy why contributing into social networking like facebook, myspace, etc..?

Now I am thinking of the guru’s marketers right now. How their eyes bright out with this new step in facebook. You will see now tons of e-books saying “Make money with facebook”. ;) Wait and see those bunch of useless e-books in few weeks after facebook start making this step.

Well, how many people do you think are actually going to go in and find that option? Not many. There is a lot of information on those pages and i do not think it is a good idea in general to have all this private information floating around.

Especially when ’security’ questions at most banks are like ‘what was your first car’ and what was your first pet.. which are avaible on a lot of social sites like myspace and facebook… blech..

I did a research about it and even registered an account there. Members get the message and the link in front of the home when you login (don’t know if all of you that have facebook got it, but I got it).
