Is switching a web host a problem with Google?
October 1, 2007
On another site, a poster wrote “The issue is probably because the IP for your site will have changed when you moved providers, and my guess is Google is marking your side down because of this. The good news is that Google appears to have a time limit (of about a year) when things should return to normal”
Now, I have only switched a very small site for a friend who is a niche supplier from one web host to another. For some keywords, he is page one in Google - but then the niche nature of his business probably helps that.
However, I want to switch the company web site from one host to another, because I will get better technical support and better value for money. But obviously I don’t want to disappear off the radar with Google. Has anybody here experienced a dip in ranking with Google after changing site host?
No, your rankings will not be change unless you make a change in your domain. Googlelady this year have changed hosting 2 times and the rankings was the same.

Weird…. if they were geo-targeting and moved from say a UK server to one in the US … there could/would be some slippage, otherwise, I can’t see it. It is a good point though for folks to always check the physical location of a server prior to a move.
All things being equal US server to US server, I can’t see any reason it would fall off…. hmmmmmmm

Thegypsy: Google geo-target on the domains extensions and not the server.

Well I moved servers 2 weeks ago and nothing odd happened. I was only a month old mind you so I could not realy tell you either way. How do you find where you are on the google search anyways.

Collin there are many tools out there but I use mybloglog statistics to know from where the visitors are coming. It is usefull to know which keywords you are ranked well (when the visitors come from there) and to know from which keywords you are getting traffic. Check this article: MyBlogLog Tools for Bloggers

by the way, Collin, you need to fix the title of your blog. It shows your URL blog. Contact me and I will let you know how to do it.
