Greedy Affiliate Marketers

This is really dissapointed how affiliate marketers are using email marketing to just spam their members sending emails almost everyday to promote any product. Oh how I miss the old email marketing when you receive an email and find many interesting things (tips, guides,etc..). But now? They are just promoting products and their main goal (and the only one) is to make money from the email list.

Joel Comm: Old days Joel Comm was my favorite but now? Is just dissapointed how Joel Comm has turned to be an affiliate marketer that he really don’t care about their members. Let’s see each email that he send out is for 2 reasons:
1. To sell you something that he will make money from it
2. To tell you to join his conference where “again” he do it just to make money from it. How? Easy promoting the web conference tool which give him $50 per lead and $150 per sale. I am not against this, but I am against to be greedy and make his email list a spam. Hey baby! Come on! we miss the old days where you are giving free guides and free tips!

Michael Rasmussen: This is another affiliate marketer that I lost all my respect and also marked (like joel comm) all his emails as a spam. The last tip that he gave was on August 16, 2007, and the last email that I received is today (29 september,2007) promoting a product. (oh btw was the same product that Joel promoted).

There are many others affiliate marketers doing the same thing. I like what Amit a great affiliate marketer is doing. Instead of spamming his members he opened a blog and write almost everyday in his blog. If you see his blog, Amit rarely promote a product and you know why? Because he is not greedy like “nowadays” affiliate marketers. Come on! There are something called PPC so they can promote their products (Are you reading this Joel?) there. Joel and most of the affiliate marketers have blogs, why not making the same thing that Amit is doing? Continue what you were doing when you first started to build an email empire…

Funny that you write this at a time when Amit’s being accused of spamming his blog (I disagree - is spamming your own blog even possible?). I don’t know about these other guys, but I believe Amit will only promote a product that he believes in - and we get bonus offers for signing up with him :)

Eric Nagel: I didn’t knew that Amit is being accused for spamming his own blog. But if you see his blog you know that he is doing a great job

    Hi GoogleLady!

I have my name on Google Alerts and came across your article. I’m sorry you haven’t been happy with the promotions I have sent out.

I believe that I email MORE content-only newsletters than any other Internet marketer on the planet. I do at least one fresh article without any offer every week, with some weeks featuring two articles!

As for the products I promote, I only email about those which I believe are of value. I am also clear that every product is not for every person. But I have no way of knowing where everyone is in the marketing, so the only way is to make it available to everyone.

Finally, I never spam. Spam is unsolicited email. I never do that. I only send email to people who have opted into my list. Those who don’t want to receive it can simply unsubscribe.

But you’ll be missing out on plenty of original and useful content if you do :-)

    Warm regards,

    Joel

This is a good post. I actually cannot blame them for being greedy. The internet if packed full of money. The opportunity is there, you must take it before someone else does.

I hope you do an overview to what emails you have sent and see that it really makes you a “Greedy affiliate marketers” . If I continue to give you more examples from the whole september and previous months everything are the same.

My personal opinion I don’t think I will miss something from being a member in your email list, if we are talking “old times” I would say yes! You were giving a lot of tips before but now you are just trying to get comissions almost everyday selling products to earn affiliate commissions.

Joel, I am not attacking you or something similar, but nowadays many affiliate marketers are doing the same and the same. I choosed you because I was a fan of you but now I am really dissapointed.

    Donald,

I agree with you and that’s why I said that there is something called PPC / or your own blog to advertise your affiliate programs or any other opportunity. But in the case of Joel having a big email list promote products I am not against that but make it slowly not almost everyday and give something usefull as joel said “content only”.

I absolutely agree with you GoogleLady. As a matter of fact, I no longer subscribe to newsletters anymore as most of these - unfortunately - have turned into a money making machine as opposed to fresh and useful content. Sadly, the same trend is also taking place in Blogs - Affiliate Marketing Blogs that is. As soon as I notice an over-zealous drive to regularly post sales pitches instead of useful content, I hit the unsubscribe button in my RSS reader. Guess what? Out of 20 blogs, I have unsubscribed from a dozen. Unfortunately, Amit is in that list too (sorry to disagree with you). Don’t get me wrong, some of his posts are decent but he never really goes that extra edge to make him stand out from the crowd. From the lot, I probably could only mention your blog and Derek Beau as an addition to my knowledge in affiliate and PPC marketing.

Athmane, thanks for coming and commenting. I like and respect other opinions even if disagree with my opinion. Just want to ask something if in the future there is a post that you don’t like or feel that I am being greedy just contact me and let me know before you unsubscribe to my RSS. Like this I can learn from my readers as well.

    Thanks for coming!

    Hi Googlelady,
I found your blog through Amit’s site. Thanks for ALL the info being shared in your blog. Instead of all those useless ebooks being marketed all over the web, yours is a breath of fresh air especially for newbies like me who is struggling to learn the rope. I only subscribed to Amit and Derek Beau to learn about AM and yours is the next RSS feed that I subscribed. Thanks for sharing your knowledge !
