When your are an affiliate marketer via your website and not focuss only in PPC. Did this question came to your mind? If using “link to a new window” or just from your site? I really don’t tested this but I think using or not using link in new window have their pro’s and con’s. Before going into details I would like to show the tag on how you can make this done. Believe me some people still don’t know how to do this little trick. To make your affiliate links open in a new windows just do the following:
< . a href="http:/ www.NowSell.com" target="_blank" .> (remove the dot’s)

So let’s continue:

Using Affiliate Links in a New Window Pro’s

  • When a shopper clicks to the link from your site, they will still be in your site and he will continue to shop. So your site could possibly be used again. (this is most of the affiliate marketers opinions).
  • If you have a site which make many comparisons on different products it may be usefull if the user wants to check every reviewed or compared product.

Using Affiliate Links in a New Window Con’s

  • There have been studies that many people hate when links opens in a new windows
  • What if a shopper has a pop up blocker? Some people say that it will not blog links from html (a href), but I tried it and sometimes opens and sometimes blocked it. So you may loose some potential here.
  • Now many people opens “new tabs” instead of new windows. Are you one of those?

There are the pro’s and con’s that I think. Personally I don’t use affiliates or other links to open in a new window. I am a person that opens links into new tabs (thanks to firefox that was the first browser to create tabs). Do you have any other pros or cons to use affiliate links in a new windows? Do you think it will affect your conversions?

When I first started blogging, I had every link open in a new window. After much debate, I decided that I hated new windows, so I changed them all. I’m in love with the tab features and figure if people like my site enough, they’ll come back.

That’s strange, a popup blocker shouldn’t stop a window being opened from a href. With the invention of tabbed browsing I have most affiliate links open in a new window/tab. Windows popping up all over the place was bad but I don’t mind so much when it’s only a new tab being opened.
