Last year, Googlelady had a pagerank of 7 and after almost 2 years enjoying the pagerank it dropped to 6, and now after all the buzz on pagerank updates Googlelady have been dropped to 4. Is this bad? After digging more about Googlelady’s ranking status on Google, I am still at the top on keywords that I was ranked well before. So I don’t think this is bad as my main worry is about “ranking well in Google” and not having a good pagerank.

I have been dropped why?

Now, that Googlelady’s pagerank have been dropped I don’t really think that is because what other bloggers said: Selling links, Text Link Ads publishers or those that are promoting Text Link Ads. I am sure that there is a change on “How to calculate Pagerank” or may be there is a ‘new’ formula for the pagerank. But now the question is, what is the new formula if everything in Googlelady is the same:

- More ‘natural’ backlinks, I never bought backlinks from other sites or something similar. There are even more backlinks from other sites linking to Googlelady.
- Googlelady Age is older. You know that this factor is one of the most important in ranking well in Google but it seems with pagerank is 0.
- “Nofollow” I added the nofollow tags as Google suggested but there is no effect doing this. Some bloggers said that if you add “Nofollow” tag. Your pagerank will not drop. Wrong ;)
- I have changed all the “advertising”, “Sponsors”… But as the same reason that definitevely Google is NOT dropping those sites that “sells links”

There is major change in Pageranks for ALL sites, and if your site pagerank is not dropped yet. Wait and see… :) I am sure that Google is trying to make the pagerank system or algorithm more difficult and complex. If you check some sites like Adbrite, they have been dropped from 8 to 7. I have a backlink from Adbrite blog when it was 8. So I think Google is dropping pagerank from Big sites and all other sites will be dropped as well. Now my question is, if this is true we will see amazon.com and cnn.com dropping their pagerank as well? (they are at 9 right now).

Pagerank’s will be dropping for old sites and for the new sites it will increase their pagerank but with the “new formula” so you will see new sites pageranks from 1-4 maximum and if you have a new blog/website and got pagerank 5 you are damm lucky. See in this way, before websites that had pageranks 6-7-8 it was really high and important but now those numbers will be impossible or damm difficult to get. The Pagerank market will change, after those updates buyer’s will be searching for pageranks 4-5 (which will be high) and 6-7-8 will be almost impossible.

There are many webmasters that are pissed off because this changes, but remember Google always change their “spiders” algorithms and Pagerank algorithm have not been changed since Google created it. Now is time that they change their algorithm to something more “accurate” or something that can’t be “manipulated”. May be their algorithm will be something that Technorati has? After 6 months the backlink will expire and the ‘new’ backlinks will be counted? But it will be more than 6 months and let’s say 1-2 years? I am really excited for the coming changes!

I got a PR4 today and I am quite happy with it until I read your post. The max is 4, this means that to get 5 is really difficult.

My blog is a new blog so I don’t expect it to drop back to N/A again. Anyway, I still don’t see the importance of Page Rank though since I don’t sell any text links.

Yes, I perfectly agree with you. I think that the algo has been changed in some ways, and I also see it like you do: I am glad that it did. We will have to investigate and let our experiences say what are those changes. Nice post, I will be visiting your blog more often, and I invite you to do the same with mine. Change of experiences is always good and even though my blog is a very new one at the moment, it will grow ;).

I see many sites with PR5 has dropped to PR4, I think this has to do with the growth of internet.

Think about it for a second, the internet is expanding fast, PageRank meaning the important of a web site in the “internet”, if the back link is not keeping up with the growth rate, I think many web site will still drop their link in the near future…

There really (must be) is more than meets the eye. Google’s PR drops are just not for selling links. The way things were going, most bloggers would have had PR10 by the next two updates. Google just wouldn’t allow this.
