11? I just had to come over thinking, ‘gee, 11 is weird number for a list?’ – Talk about some strange title-bait huh? What to add…what to add…..? Oh here’s something….

You mentioned the ‘great content’ or site angle, that is not only good for building natural, editorial links, but ultimately for conversions as well. Building links and ultimately search rankings is great and all, but what’s the point if the site doesn’t convert?

11? Jeez… you really dragged me in with that one.

Talk soon GL :0)

It's important to look at building a successful web presence as a long term process instead of a short term process.

I once read an article where a class of MBA students from many different countries expressed different expectations for a successful business launch. Students from Japan looked at success based on a 5-10 year outline, while students from Europe tended to look at success based on a 3-5 year time line. Meanwhile, the students from the US based their expectations on a 6-12 month time line.

The web is filled with stories of people who shot to the top of the search engines using "black hat" tactics only to have Google "dance" and as quickly as they arrived at the top, they found themselves floundering at the bottom.

View the value of links in terms of the traffic they'll bring and not the "Google juice" they'll impart and you'll be rewarded in the long run!

One should think of the aim of the link building before pursuing a particular strategy. If you're merely linking to get some PR "juice", then most of the methods you've mentioned above will do it to a certain degree.

However, the value of a link is in the traffic that it brings. So what if you get a link or banner that is a "no follow" on a popular site? What you should be measuring is the amount of traffic that it actually brings and whether that traffic does what you want.

Well myself being a fairly new site I don't want to risk pissing off Google and hurting my site. Even though it may take longer to get a higer rank for my site it is worth it in the long run I think.

My self I would rather know tricks to getting your key words at the top of the page then how to build links.
