Week 5: Search Engine & Directory Submission
November 28, 2007
This is week 5 summary of How to Make Money Online in 3 Months case study.
After some research to find the best free search engine and directory submissions I made this list so anyone can submit their site for free. I would like to note that this is my first time to make this type of stuff as I am not a big fan to make submitions but because of small period of time that I have in this case study I would like to test out what everyone else do and if it is worth or not.
Search Engines Submissions:
Amfibi Search Engine: Amfibi- General search engine which includes its own index of websites, a directory (provided by the Open Directory Project). It includes also a directory.
Gigablast: A powerful, new search engine that does real-time indexing. It seems also that Gigablast have been “press” many times. I think it is worth to submit your site there.
Accoona: is a search engine with interactive tools that provides users with better web, business and news results powered by proprietary Artificial Intelligence.
InfoTiger: Is a search engine which is build based on a directory “scheme”. Their traffic is not so well but at least is worth to add it here. It seems that is from Germany.
Exalead: Is a globar Internet search engine and it has more traffic (based on alexa). It has also an Image and Video section.
Yahoo!: Anyone knows who is Yahoo! and how big they are.
MSN: Everyone knows who MSN (Microsoft) are. Here is the submission page. Is recommended only to submit your site once only.
For Google I never recommend to submit your site. I will prefer to follow How to get indexed in 1 Day in Google article that I wrote few months ago.
Directories Submission:
Dmoz: Dmoz is another “trusted” directory in the Google eyes. But the problem here is that is very rare to get approved by them. Even Googlelady.com still not approved and really don’t know why.
Search Sight: Based on Alexa this directory has a good and a fair traffic.
World Site Index: Go to the category of your site. When you are there submit your site.
MaviCanet: is another directory but this one has different categories than usual.
Info Listings: Another directory.
Tips on How to Submit your Site
Google penalize your site if your backlinks grows faster. The best practice to submit your site in Directories will be “Slowly” make a plan and so something like “2 links per week” to submit your site. Be patient and do it slowly.

Submitting your link to free directories is a must, except for those that require a reciprocal link for your site to be listed. Ultimately, it’s about you to decide whether to give a reciprocal link or not. Just keep in mind that search engines will not penalize you because of your incoming links, but your outgoing links can do much harm to you.

I like using Axandra IBP & Arelis. It submits my websites to near 300 search engines in a matter of minutes.

Axandra IBP & Arelis is a greate tool for submitting website, but as Googlelady said “Google penalize your site if your backlinks grows faster”, so be patient and do it slowly.

Like Googlelady, I have no flair for submission to search engines. No matter how many directories and search engines you submit to, my experience over the last three years is that CONTENT IS KING!
I have anonymously ran many websites into success without submitting to any directories or search engines. It may be a little slow at the beginning, but at the end, it is the search engines who will find you out and make a showpiece of you, if you have original, and frequent content in your niche blog.

There is really no reason to submit to any search engine.
Directories have lost more and more link value over the years. I no longer submit to them either. You’ll probably get more value out of nofollow blog comments than a directory these days.

I was wondering the same thing as a previous poster. Is DMOZ still alive? I submitted my site (which is probably the best site in Canada in my niche) a year ago and still have not been accepted. I saw some REALLY bad sites there (no content, poor design, tons of technical problems) yet mine is not included.
Has anyone been accepted lately?

Hi GoogleLady!
very interesting case study.
I wanted to let you know that a lot of these directory links are broken. The last directory URL even seems to be parked, so not functional.
now, I do have a question. When you write those articles and submit to Digg and Stumbleupon, how long are those article? Any samples?
Thanks,
A
