How to Track Your PPC Keywords Conversions
December 4, 2007
There have been many people trying to find a free and easy way to track their keywords convertions. You can do it easily with Google analytics. My previous tip about Google Analytics: Track Outbound Clicks can work to track your keywords and landing page as well.
But this will work only if you have 1 keyword per adgroup, I know that is almost impossible but is free and if you are starting with affiliate marketing, don’t have the budget to buy a tool for this or you don’t have any programming knowledge/programmer to hire.
How to track your PPC keywords conversions
Let’s assume that you have a campaign called “googlelady” and an adgroup inside this campaign called “Googlelady Hosting” with its respective landing page. On all links of that landing page add the onclick with something similar to:
< . a href="http://www.googlelady.com" onClick="javascript:urchinTracker('/campaign/adgroup1/keyword');" .>
Then go to your Google Analytics to see how many times have been clicked and how much is your ROI on this adgroup. If you are a comission juction publisher, place a SID on that adgroup and add them to your ontrack for example the adgroup campaign SID is: 25435 add the following:
< . a href="http://www.googlelady.com" onClick="javascript:urchinTracker('/campaign/adgroup1/CJ SID# Here');" .>
Then you will be able to track how much ROI you have made from that Landing page and that Keyword and if it is worth to continue this campaign or not.
This is not a rocket science or something that is easy to do when you have thousands of keywords. But this is the best way when you are starting and have very limited budget. Then you can build some high converting keyword and re-invest your profits so you can build your capital for PPC and be a Super Affiliate. Being a PPC affiliate marketer and not knowing the conversion of your campaigns can kill your pockets.

Out of interest are there any tracking tools you recommend once you get more keywords/campaigns than you can track this way? Many thanks, Matt

I can’t recommend any because I use a tool in-house. So may be I will try to make a research and see what’s on the market.
