Case Study Week 6: How to make money online in 3 Months
In Week 4 I have posted a list of free keyword research tools. Now I will give few examples on how I try to find and know my niche more and see how/what people search in my niche. Ken Giddens often said: “If Content is King on the Internet, then Keywords are Queen.”
I totally agree with this phrase, when you have a website/blog you have to know what people add (keywords) on search engines to find website or products that they are interested. I know that many of you don’t know how to find keywords and that’s why I will show you some example starting from zero.
First of all you have to see what products and companies you are promoting. Let’s put some examples on what I am promoting in Coupon Codes Mall: Amazon Products (many), Buy.com Products (many), Laptops and plasma.
Let’s start with Amazon:
I will use 2 keywords but not because are the best or are my priority but just to show how is the process to find keywords, all the keywords tools are the same process and the same “How to think about it”.
Free WordTracker keyword Tool:
I added the word Amazon which is the company that I am promoting:

Wordtracker free keyword research tool has a limit of the top 100:

The good thing about Wordtracker keyword (free version) you can click on the keywords that show there, for example I clicked on “Amazon Books” and then it came another good results:
-
2793 amazon books
37 amazon uk books
33 amazon books uk
26 amazon used books
14 amazon audio books
10 amazon books and videos
10 amazon couples books
8 amazon books best seller list
8 amazon books canada
Google keyword Tool
I will prefer to use Google Keyword as this is the #1 Search engine that most of the people search on it and it is updated not like overture that from January 2006 is not updated their database.

The results of Google keyword tool is a little bit different from other keywords. Google will show you the Advertiser Competition, Last month search volume and Avg Search Volume:

You can notice that there are results on “Amazon Forest”, “Amazon River”… We are not interested in those words because we are promoting the Amazon Company products and not the Amazon forest. When you are using Google keyword tool you have to take into consideration some tips:
Advertiser competition: When there is a full bar, it means that there are many adwords advertiser using this keyword so that means that is really profitable.
Last Month Search Volume & Avg Search Volume: If the bar is full it means that there are many people searching this keyword so it is high-competitive which means is Profitable as well but we have to take into consideration that we have a new site and in SEO terms it will be difficult to rank well on those high-competitive keywords.
The Good thing is that Google keyword shows you another block of results in the same page about the keyword “Amazon”:

Let’s see there are “Books”, “textbooks”, “electronics”, “laptop”, “Online shopping”… Which is more accurate about the amazon products.
Time to Choose what keywords to use with amazon:
With those free keyword tools can give you an idea on what people type to search. But as mentioned above my site is new and have no ranking so I will focuss on keywords with Minimum-medium competition so I can rank high on those keywords and then when my site is ranked well I can focuss on more competitive keywords. For example, Amazon is the number one on selling Books so it will be very profitable if I focuss in “Amazon Books” but is high competitive with 2793 search. Then I add “Amazon Books” in Google Keyword and it shows me:

“amazon coupon code books” has little-no advertiser and the avg search volume is OK. This can be a good keyword to focuss.
“books on the amazon” & “books about the amazon” The same as above and now searched on amazon if they provide books about amazon and you can find so is a good idea to promote those kind of books.
“amazons book” this is my best bet. Little-to-no competition and the avg search is great. Will be good to make an article or a section about Amazons Books and make articles about Amazon Books different types of books.
You can spend many hours trying to find keywords related on the products you are promoting and the more you spend an search the more keywords you find.
Next week I will write about how to find more keywords on other companies and specific products. Hope you are getting the idea on how to make your keyword researches. This is not only for your PPC campaigns but also giving you ideas on what to write about in your site to promote and sell your producs/services.

The only problem i see with the keyword research conducted here is that Amazon is a trademark name and its against Amazon Terms to bid on its trademark on search engines

Is the “advertiser competition” column stating the competing pages targeting these keywords or PPC advertisers bidding on Adwords?
