Google Shocker: Paid Click Hits Wall & GOOG Stock in Near Free Fall – Down 8% Today

Google shares are getting hit early Tuesday after comScore’s report on a startlingly big decline in paid click growth. UBS cut its price target on Google Inc after U.S. paid-search data for January showed Google’s sponsored clicks, the basis for its advertising revenue, fell 7 percent sequentially, and shares of the Web search giant tumbled more than 8 percent. “While Google’s search volumes were decent (up 39 percent year-on-year), actual paid clicks were flat…continuing a decidedly negative trend,” analyst Benjamin Schachter said in a note.

Yahoo To Open Search

This open search platform enables 3rd parties to build and present the next generation of search results. There are a number of layers and capabilities that we have built into the platform, but our intent is clear — present users with richer, more useful search results so that they can complete their tasks more efficiently and get from “to do” to “done.”

Because the platform is open it gives all Web site owners — big or small — an opportunity to present more useful information on the Yahoo! Search page as compared to what is presented on other search engines. Site owners will be able to provide all types of additional information about their site directly to Yahoo! Search. So instead of a simple title, abstract and URL, for the first time users will see rich results that incorporate the massive amount of data buried in websites — ratings and reviews, images, deep links, and all kinds of other useful data — directly on the Yahoo! Search results page.

Google Adwords: Automatic Matching Beta – Ultra Broad Match

I’m excited to tell you that you have been selected to participate in a beta for our new Automatic Matching feature which will be starting on February 28th.

Automatic Matching automatically extends your campaign’s reach by using surplus budget to serve your ads on relevant search queries that are not already triggered by your keyword lists. By analyzing the structure and content of your website and AdWords campaigns, we deliver more impressions and clicks while maintaining your current CTRs and CPCs.

For example, If you sold Adidas shoes on your website, Automatic Matching would automatically crawl your landing page and target your campaigns to queries such as: “shoes” “adidas” “athletic”, etc., and less obvious ones such as “slippers” that our system has determined will benefit you and likely lead to a conversion on your site.

Be assured that automatic matching will try to never exceed your budget. If you’re already meeting your daily budgets, automatic matching will have a minimal effect on your account.

Review Prices Going Up Next Month

This is an announcement that John Chow made, he will increase the prices of the reviews on his blog. But the reason I have posted this because his readers are asking an interesting question:

Many readers have emailed me asking why I run my review through Reviewme

and he answered in an article about It’s About The Relationship.

The Internet is about more than just making money online. It’s also about building relationships and that is more important than money. Reviewme has provided me with excellent service and support. They’ve sent me customers I would have never gotten if I was not part of their network. They gave me the scoop on new products like Post Level Text Link Ads. I will not cut them (or any other ad networks) out just to make a few extra bucks.

Why You Should Embrace Negative Press

Recently I did a podcast with Techcrunch writer Duncan Riley. During the interview Duncan caught me a bit off guard when he asked about how I deal with bad press. I forget exactly what I said but I think it was something along the lines of “it comes with success”. I have thought about it a little more and thought it would make a good digg bait post to have like “top 10 reasons you should like negative press”. But as I started to write that post I thought I needed to tell my experiences and thoughts more…
