It seems that Google noticed that they are loosing their top adsense publishers after webmasters are realising that Affiliate Marketing is worth more than using Adsense in their TOP sites. But then to success with Adsense you need to improve your site not only with Unique content, better ad placement… You need to get your site at the top of the search engine and get huge quality traffic to get better earnings per click. If you check my previous article Content Network Bid High Get Quality Results. You will know that getting $1 per click you will need to get at the top of Google Search Engine results.

Google started to encourage their Adwords Advertisers to advertise in their Content Network:

Anybody feel the content network has not been vigorously promoted to advertisers? I just received a promotional email from Google encouraging me to advertise on their content network.

Among the enticements cited to opt back into the content network:

Placement Performance Reports
Presents the advertiser with site by site performance metrics at the URL level.

ROI management
Discusses how to manage ROI on the content network

Content Newtwork Case Study

Site Exclusion Tool
Shows the advertiser how to exclude their ads from sites they dislike

Site Targeting
Shows advertisers how to target specific sites

The email ends with instructions on how to enable the content network.

That’s true this is a win-win situation for Google, because advertisers will spent their budget quicker than in the search, if you think about it, advertisers will receive clicks if they are at #1 page of the results and some in the #2 page result, but there are niches that have more than 10 pages of advertising (ADS) and I am sure those advertisers are getting from zero to minimum of clicks, which user will press “next” to the page 10 and look at the advertisers ads? Few of them…

So if you have a great site that is very well optimized in search engine stay tunned that you will get more revenue with Adsense than before, but then what about small publishers?

But in another point of view, Google introduces the new Site And Category Exclusion Tool which advertisers can block your site if it does not perform well.

We’ve updated the Site Exclusion tool to give you more control over where your ads appear on the Google content network. It’s now called the Site and Category Exclusion tool, and it allows you to exclude certain categories of webpages from your content network campaigns in addition to excluding individual sites.

If you find that you’re repeatedly excluding many sites of the same type, either to optimize for the content network or to further control your campaign’s exposure, using category exclusion can be a simpler way to control your ads’ visibility. Category exclusion can be used with any type of campaign running on the content network: keyword-targeted or placement-targeted.

So in this case “If you want to make Money with Adsense, you should optimize it very well to SELL and not just to get clicks”. In this case I will prefer promoting affiliates so I am sure I can earn $xx per sale instead of $x per click.

Duh! Who would have thought they would loose their top publishers with a 60% drop in income? Last summer I was making about $400 a month on AdSense and now I barely make $150.

I dropped 2/3 of my AdSense ad spots and guess what? I still make the same (crappy) revenue with only 1/3 of the impressions!

The system allows advertiser to block you out and can check whether the click converts to a lead conversion or not.Good for advertiser but it might not be a good thing for publisher.
