Adwords Account or Domains Get Slapped or Penalized?
April 20, 2008
In this article How To Recover From a $10.00 AdWords Quality Score I mentioned two things one is “Domain Penalized” or “Adwords Account Penalized”. I have received an email from a super affiliate, saying that he don’t believe that domains god penalized or slapped but is the account history which got penalized.
With this post I want to proof that your domain can get slapped. I did that for Coupon Codes Mall. All campaigns that I used under my personal adwords account with this domain got all “poor” or “ok” quality score. Then after receiving this email I created the same adwords campaing, with the same keywords, with the same ads and the same landing page word by word using Googlelady.com domain name. Guess what? Got all the keywords “great” quality score.
I am still confused on the reason that coupon codes mall dot com got this quality score penalty. If you make a comparison between both sites the only differences are the following:
- Googlelady blog is almost 3 years old (Since 2005) and coupon codes mall is 5 months old
- Both domain names will expire in 9 years. No difference in this.
- Googlelady has pagerank 4 and Couponcodesmall has pagerank 2
- Googlelady is an authority site
- Googlelady has much more backlinks than coupon codes mall
- Googlelady is updated everyday or every 2 days, sometimes coupon codes mall is updated every 4 days.
- Googlelady is ranked very well with a lot of keywords but Coupon Codes Mall as a “new” domain name still not ranking well in Google.
- Googlelady has a lot of backlinks from authority sites. An example is that Googlelady has been linked from a well known advertising company since 2006.
- In general, you can say that Coupon Codes Mall main reason is for affiliate marketing but Googlelady is more personal blog. You can conclude that Google now knows which sites are just “real” sites or just “fake real sites”.
- Coupon Codes Mall have been slapped since Google again changed their algorithm.
Now, we can say that if you start ppc just to focuss on Affiliate Marketing and create a site or blog just to attract customers from ppc you will be slapped. You have to think as a long-term make your site or blog as informative as you can. If you compare both sites Googlelady and Coupon Codes Mall. I made coupon codes mall for the case study on how to make money online in 3 months. So every post will be links to affiliate programs and not to attract visitors just for the sake to get RSS subscribers or write something that I like. Now my question, Google got the formula (algorithm) to think like me as a human? I will recommend that if you want to really success in PPC create your sites and blogs and put your mind to post unique and informative articles and not just to sell.

This is another reason why I have yet to sign up with Adwords. There are too many factors that could cause you to lose money. It is rather unstable. One day you make 3k, the next you lose 1500. I recommend not playing with adsense unless you have the money to gamble with. You have more luck in vegas with 5k.

yeah man… Google is indeed making things really tough for us. Besides, its not saying what’s the real factor to be taken into account for the quality score. Instead of making us guess, why not tell us what’s they want so that we can move towards there?

As Google keeps doing its secrecy thing, newer offshoots will rise and shine. All Google can do is buy these startups and make them perform badly too. A lot of publishers are getting frustrated with google and leaving. Soon, the marketshare for ads will drop to very low levels compared to their wealth. Googlelady what is all this Google secrecy and algorithm. It will be simpler if they make it clear why and when they penalize publishers.

I think another problem with couponcodesmall.com is the content. Googlelady has only unique, fresh content, while couponcodesmall.com has most lists of discount offers. As you stated in your post, both sites are well seo optimized so, to conclude, CONTENT IS THE KING. Good, fresh, unique and relevant content can help you not get slapped.
Wade you are totally exaggerating. If you think like this it is clear you have no idea what’s adwords.
Ivan, think of adwords like seo. What would happen if everybody would know google’s seo algorithm? Only the big players would have top positions. By not releasing the algorithms google helps us, the little ones, beat the C**P out of the big “dinosaurs”.

Vlad, every niche is optimized differently. If you check the “make money online” niche you will see that are full of “Unique content” but if you check the niche about couponcodesmall.com (Like Coupons) you will see that top of the sites are with few content and full of links.

I think you also have to consider duplicate content. I have resold sites that are having issues very similar to this post.

I think that suchs. Google is doing monopoly.
Your site is obviously a nice and clean site and there is no reason for penalty.
You should contact adwords with this same post.

The same thing happened to me with my site. I could not recover from the $10.00 minimum bids. I moved the site “as is” to a new domain and got great or good quality scores with no further issues. This was a brandnew domain name that I bought just for this purpose of testing ….

Chris, that’s totally true that’s why testing is good and I love to share it with you. Many marketers thing that Only your account get penalized but I can assure that domain name also get penalized or may be is the only thing that get penalized.

Hi,
Regarding organic search penalty, what i should do if the website is out of searches indexing, ranking and lost the page ranks as well. The website was in top 5 in google searches just few week back and now it has lost all the online status. Please suggest.
Thanks,

There may be a ton of other factors in the QS equation…
Does GoogleLady.com has a much better “bounce rate” than CouponCodeMall.com?
Does GoogleLady.com have a higher “Pages/Visit Avarage”?
Does GoogleLady.com have a “Avg. Time on Site”?
And so on.
I’d be very surprised if Google wasn’t working these types of factors into your QS.

Chris that may be true, but what I really suspect is that CouponCodesMall had adsense and after 2 days the Quality score of that domain went to poor. So it seems that Google use Adsense to define also the quality score. How? I think it use the “Smartprice” system.
