How To Install Wordpress Blog With Hostgator
April 24, 2008
This post is part of my case study My Hosting Diary
Now that my hostgator is activated and verified I have to install my wordpress blog in this new domain name like this I can review their hosting service and the uptime.
Step 1:
Login to your Cpanel / Control Panel that they give you when you register an account with them. Then go down and check where it says “Fantastico De Luxe”:
Step 2:
After you click on “Fantastico De Luxe” you will see a list on your left hand and click on Wordpress under blogs. Then a new installation box will prompt:

Step 3:
Then click on “new Installation” and then a new box will appear:

- Install on domain: Will be the domain that you are installing the new wordpress blog, so will be automatically added.
- Install in directory: If you want the blog to be as your domain www.ur-domain.com then don’t add anything there, but if you want www.ur-domain.com/anything. Then add “Anything” in that field.
- Admin access data: Here you will add the username and password of your Blog.
- Base configuration: Admin nickname will be the name that will appear in your posts. The admin email should be the one that you will use under the blog. You can add your personal email. The site name is the name of your blog and the description will be for the blog.
- E-mail account configuration: the E-mail account username will be the username of your CPanel account, E-mail account password the cpanel password, POP/SMTP server will be your domain name and POP/SMTP server port will be 110.
Then Push “Install Wordpress”.
Step 4:
Here you don’t have to do anything, just press again “finish installation”. Then you are done, the last message will be your username and password of your new blog. Also if you want to send the information to your personal email you can send it as well in the same box:

I am a little bit dissapointed but understandable is that wordpress 2.5 have been published since 5 days ago (When I wrote this post) and still hostgator have (2.3.3) version. But that is better than other hosting companies that still have previous versions. You see is easy to install wordpress with hostgator.

It is a bravado for a non-IT person, working alone to purchase self hosting. If you blog and know very little about programing and so on, such a purchase will eat into your time which is not even enough to visit 300 blogs in a day. I may never go there, really.

Hey googlelady,
I came upon your case study on making a profitable website in 12 week, I was really impress and decide to registrate a domain with godaddy.com. the first few day was fine, but all the sudden, i couldn’t enter my site anymore, i email to godaddy and they say that it my service provider ( i’m in China )whom maybe blocking it. have you ever encounter this problem?

Yes Deleon, that’s true sometimes your Internet Provider (ISP) will block some pages. Recently I had this is issue with many sites including alexa.com
