I beg to differ with you.
Hostgator looks like an awesome bargain at first sight. I have been hosting with Hostgator for about 1 year and a half now and although the value seems to be excellent, I have suffered several server blackouts and the last one wiped out all my files except databases. Sadly enough I didn’t have a recent backup neither did they.
It was an awful experience and I would certainly recommend trying a different host.
I am going to try webhostingpad whom you recommended and see what happens.

Jai, I was searching on their forum about the problem you said. And you were not the only one because Googlelady’s server have been in the same boat fortunetly I had my backups in place. That problem was a Zero day exploit on Linux servers and I posted about it when that happened. Googlelady.com had down for 2 days but I don’t blame 100% on the hosting provider.

About webhostingpad, lately I had many problems with them, and I will make a new review about the problems. Till now I don’t recommend webhostingpad. A hosting company that I am making a good research is about Hostpapa and it seems good.

    Hello Everyone,

I’m the owner of hostgator and there definitely wasn’t any 0 day exploits that resulted in data loss. The data loss being referred to affected maybe ten customers out of the 1 million plus sites we hosted.

Gator245.hostgator.com had data corruption that affected the main drives and the backup drive. We were forced to restore from our offsite backups . There were about 10 accounts on the server that weren’t backed up due to being over 50,000 inodes. These accounts however did have their mysql fully backed up and restored.

Jai and Googlelady could you both email me to discuss the problem you had? I can be reached at brent@ hostgator.com Thanks!!!

I’ve used many hosts in the last 10 years, and I’ve had one problem or another with all of them, ranging from extended downtime, bad customer service, slow performance (especially when using Joomla), or hidden fees (eg, some providers make a killing on a security certificate resale). Not so with Hostgator. I opened my first account with them last November, and recently completed migrating all my web sites (20 or so) to Hostgator. No complaints! Customer support is fast and courteous, there are no hidden fees, and the management utilities are up to snuff. I highly recommend them for peace of mind.
Now, about Jai’s complaint about losing data… Ultimately, you shouldn’t trust anyone other than you for backing up your data, period. I know that’s a pain in the butt, but that’s the bottom line. I understand a good provider has backups, but still…

I was with Host Gator for two years without a problem but recently they pulled my site with no warning. They left a lovely ’suspended’ message in place of my site, which left my members (who told me so) thinking it had been pulled for non payment.

This happened three times & it turns out it was due to their policy (implimented last year) on inodes. Until this experience I hadn’t even heard of an inode. I thought I was fine because I hadn’t used much of my allocated space or bandwidth.

To say it has been an unpleasant experience would be an understatement. It has been horrible.

I think for a small site they would be fine, but a larger site, no. The thing is, I just wish they’d treated me a bit fairer. I wasn’t informed of their change to the TOS & had they just told me my account had too many inodes & maybe it was time for me to look for another host I’d have parted ways amicably. The whole saga has left a really bitter taste in my mouth.

This inodes issue from hostgator comes as a huge huge shock to my company. I cannot afford $175/mo for small websites that we maintain.

Hostgator promises gb’s and gb’s of server space but cut it short with these crazing and cheap tactics called inode controls.

Very sad and dirty game Hostgator is playing.
