How long is a piece of string?

Today, I made my first dollar.I’ve recently built a new site, and started using adsense. Last night a nice person linked to me and I started getting a little traffic. Google hasn’t even indexed my site, although MSN search has done a fine job, although anyways… I got my first 4 clicks and made about a dollar.

What I was wondering: What is a normal, or expected Click-through-rate? I know this is a “how long is a piece of string?” question. But perhaps people could mention the type of site they have, type of ads, and the CTR.

- Ranges from .5% or lower to 25% or higher depending on the type of content/ad placement. And this is just from channels I’ve personally watched from my own account.

- Follow Google’s heat map suggestions and test a lot. Try different ad sizes, placements, colors. It’s the only way you’ll know what is best for your pages. All the stats we give you are meaningless because your pages are different than ours, as is your topic (most likely). Google wants you to do well and get a high click-thru rate, because that = more money for them! Follow their tips and test test test.

- a piece of string is as long as the distance from the two ends when streched tightly in a straight line…or something like that.

Length of String: L=S/ABsquared(G)-A*C/pie where A and B equal the sum of the maxium possible distance between endpoints and B is the square root of A. G is just some additional random variable with no real value.
